  • The Maharashtra government announced that the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ award for 2022 would be conferred on social worker Dattatreya alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari.
  • Maharashtra Bhushan is the highest award of the state government.
  • Dharmadhikari has been delivering discourses and preaching against social ills like superstition and addiction for the last three decades
  • The award comprising a medal, citation and Rs 25 lakh will be conferred on Appasaheb Dharmadhikari - who was given the Padma Shri in 2017 - at a function later.
  • Last week, the state government had increased the amount of honorarium or prize money for the Maharashtra Bhushan awardees from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
