The Maharashtra government announced that the ‘Maharashtra Bhushan’ award for 2022 would be conferred on social worker Dattatreya alias Appasaheb Dharmadhikari.
Maharashtra Bhushan is the highest award of the state government.
Dharmadhikari has been delivering discourses and preaching against social ills like superstition and addiction for the last three decades
The award comprising a medal, citation and Rs 25 lakh will be conferred on Appasaheb Dharmadhikari - who was given the Padma Shri in 2017 - at a function later.
Last week, the state government had increased the amount of honorarium or prize money for the Maharashtra Bhushan awardees from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
