  • The Centre 11 June 2024 appointed Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi as the next Army Chief. 
  • The development comes in just over two weeks after the the government in an unusual move extended the tenure of current Army chief General Manoj Pande who was to retire on May 31, by a month.
  • Lt Gen Dwivedi will now take over the new appointment from the afternoon of June 30, 2024, when Gen Pande demits office.
