  • A cricket ground in England’s Leicester has been named after India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar.
  • The former Indian cricket team captain is often considered as one of the most skilled batters ever.
  • He was the first cricketer to score 10,000 runs and once held the record for most number (34) of centuries.
  • He was also part of the Indian team that won the 1983 World Cup.
  • Gavaskar himself was present at the 5-acre ground on July 23 to inaugurate a plaque installed in his honour.
  • The initiative for the naming of the ground after the Indian legend was taken by Keith Vaz, UK’s longest serving Parliamentarian of Indian origin.
