  • After Lai Ching-te took over the role of Taiwan's new president on 20 May 2024, China is facing extreme suspicion, which it believes is a "separatist" and a divided parliament and the opposition is ready to challenge his leadership.
  • Lai, who served as vice president under Tsai Ing-wen for the past four years, was sworn into the presidential office in central Taipei. In his opening speech, Ching-te said peace is the only option and Taiwan would not make any concessions on democracy and freedom, calling on China to stop its military and political threats.
