Minister for Culture Saji Cherian has announced the Kerala State Kathakali Awards, the Pallavur Appu Marar Vadya Puraskaram, and the Keraleeya Nritta-Natya Puraskaram for 2023. Kathakali percussionists Kuroor Vasudevan Namboothiri (chenda) and Kalamandalam Sankara Warrier (maddalam) won the Kathakali awards. Chenda maestro Mattannur Sankarankutty Marar was honored with the Appu Marar award, while Koodiyattam exponent Kalamandalam P.N. Girijadevi received the Nritta-Natya award.
