· The Sikkim government has declared 'Cooper Mahseer' locally named 'Katley' as the fish of the state.
· "In Sikkim, the katley are found in different elevations, covering the entire state mainly limited to the Teesta and Rangit rivers and their tributaries.
· In the year 1992, ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBFGR), Lucknow classified Catli fish as an endangered species.
· The Sikkim government has also announced the opening of the state's reservoirs for fishing activities, the official said.
