UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has named Catherine Russell, an assistant to US President Joe Biden, as the new head of UNICEF.
Russell is also the director of the White House Office of Presidential Personnel, and from 2013 to 2017, she was the State Department's ambassador-at-large for global women's issues.
She will take over for Henrietta Fore, who stepped down in July.
Katherine Russell has been involved in Democratic politics since the mid-1980s as a lawyer.
