  • The All India Football Federation (AIFF) elected its new president on Friday 2 September. 
  • Former Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey emerged victorious, blanking former India captain, Bhaichung Bhutia.
  • Thirty-three members of the Electoral College voted for Chaubey while Bhuita got just one vote.
  • In 1999, Bhutia became the first Indian footballer to sign with a European club.
  • Chaubey, a former Mohun Bagan and East Bengal goalkeeper, has been associated with the BJP since 2015 – he lost the last parliamentary elections from Krishnanagar in West Bengal.
