  • Justice (retired) Dinesh Kumar assumed the role of Presiding Officer of the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) on April 29, 2024, after being appointed by the government of India for a four-year term. 
  • He previously served as the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
  • SAT had been operating without a presiding officer for the past four months since the retirement of Justice Tarun Aggarwal in December 2023.
  • Justice Dinesh Kumar's appointment fills this vacancy, bringing stability to the tribunal's operations.
  • Dheeraj Bhatnagar also joined SAT as the technical member of the tribunal. 
  • He brings his expertise from his previous role as the principal chief commissioner of Income Tax Delhi. 
  • His appointment is for a term of four years or until he reaches the age of 67, whichever comes earlier.
