NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has revealed a striking image of MACS J1149.5+2223, a colossal galaxy cluster about five billion light-years away in the constellation Leo. The cluster’s immense gravity bends light from background galaxies, creating spectacular gravitational lensing effects visible as arcs and distorted shapes.
Among the lensed galaxies is a spiral resembling a pink jellyfish, notable for hosting the most distant star and a supernova observed via lensing. The observation offers critical insights into galaxy formation, stellar evolution, and the large-scale structure of the Universe.
