  • Ivory Coast (Côte d’Ivoire) has become the 53rd Party to the 1992 United Nations Water Convention, also known as the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes, making it the 10th African nation to join.
  • This development comes ahead of the 10th session of the Meeting of the Parties (MoP) to the Water Convention, scheduled to take place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from October 23 to October 25, 2024.
  • Ivory Coast, along with Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal, now represents one of the four largest economies in West Africa that are parties to the Water Convention. 
  • The country shares eight transboundary river basins with its neighboring countries.
