  • Daniil Medvedev beat Holger Rune 7-5, 7-5 to win the Italian Open, his first trophy in a clay court tournament and a major boost ahead of the French Open.
  • Medvedev, who had been 0-3 in Rome prior to this year’s edition, claimed his fifth title of the season and 20th of his career.
  • He won his 20th career title. He will also be seeded second in the French Open, which begins on 28th of this month at Roland Garros.
  • The Australian-Belgian pair of Storm Hunter and Elise Mertens defeated top-seeded Americans Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula 6-4 6-4 to become the women's doubles champions.
  • Earlier, Kazakhstan's Elena Rybakina won her fourth WTA title with a win in the women's singles final.
  • The Italian Open has a rich history dating back to its inception in 1930.
  • It is one of the most prestigious events on the tennis calendar.  
  • It consists of five main draw events: Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
