International Students Day is celebrated every year on 17 November.
The day also marks the anniversary of the Nazi attack on a university in Prague in 1939.
During this invasion the Nazis imprisoned about a thousand students.
The purpose of this day is to honor those students as well as raise awareness about the challenges we face today.
Two years after this incident, i.e. in 1941, an international conference was called in London.
This conference was of students fighting against fascism.
It was decided here that henceforth International Students Day would be celebrated on 17th November every year in memory of the students martyred by the Nazis.
