International Human Rights Day is commemorated and celebrated on December 10th around the world to promote awareness about the rights that all human beings have, regardless of religion, sex, language, ethnicity, colour, nationality, or other considerations.
The day commemorates the United Nations' adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948.
The subject for this year's Human Rights Day is "Equality - Reducing inequities, advancing human rights," in light of the pandemic.
This subject is based on Article 1 of the Declaration, which asserts that everyone is born free and equal in rights and dignity.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1948.
