  • Every year on December 3, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed around the world with the goal of promoting the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all aspects of society.
  • This year's theme for International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2021 is "Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible, and sustainable post-COVID 19 world."
  • The United Nations has chosen this theme to highlight the challenges faced by disabled people during the global pandemic.
  • The annual observance of this day was established in 1992 by United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3 with the goal of raising awareness of the issues confronting people with disabilities in all aspects of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
