  • The United Nations General Assembly has proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
  • The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution proclaiming January 24 as the International Day of Education on December 3, 2018. 
  • The adoption of this resolution was co-authored by Nigeria and other 58 member states and demonstrated the unwavering political support to transform actions for equitable and quality education for all.
  • The theme of the 2023 International Day of Education is 'To invest in people, prioritize education.'
  • Recently, Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay has decided to dedicate the 2023 International Day of Education (January 24) to Afghan girls and women.
