International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is celebrated every year on 17 October to raise awareness about people struggling with poverty and living low standards of living.
The theme of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty for the year 2023 has been 'Decent work and social protection: bringing dignity into practice for all'.
A resolution to celebrate this day was passed by the United Nations General Assembly in December, 1992.
This day was celebrated for the first time in the year 1993.
