  • International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is celebrated every year on 25 November.
  • The United Nations is running 'Unite Campaign' till the year 2030 under the program to eradicate violence against women.
  • On November 25, 1960, three sisters, Patria Mercedes Mirabell, Maria Argentina Minerva Mirabell and Antonia Maria Teresa Mirabell, who opposed the dictatorship of Dominican ruler Trujillo, were brutally murdered by Trujillo.
  • Celebrating this day was started in 1981 by supporters of women's rights as a memory of these three sisters.
  • Later in the year 1999 it was established as an international day by the United Nations.
