  • INS Khukri, the first indigenously built missile corvette, was decommissioned after 32 years of service at Visakhapatnam during a solemn ceremony.
  • The corvette was launched on August 23, 1989, by Mazagon Dock shipbuilders and served in the Western and Eastern Fleets.
  • The ship was commissioned in Mumbai by then-Defence Minister Krishna Chandra Pant and Sudha Mulla, wife of late Capt Mahendra Nath Mulla, MVC, with Commander (now Vice Admiral Retired) Sanjeev Bhasin serving as her first commanding officer.
  • The ship was associated with the Gorkha Brigade of the Indian Army, the ceremony was also attended by Lt Gen PN Ananthanarayan, SM and President of the Gorkha Brigade.
