Indian Railways has made major progress in modernizing its rail infrastructure and improving safety through sustained investment over the past eleven years.
These efforts have resulted in safer, faster, and more reliable train operations nationwide.
For 2026–27, track renewal covering about 7,900 kilometres has been planned, reflecting continued focus on infrastructure strength.
The length of tracks capable of supporting speeds above 110 kmph has nearly tripled—from 31,445 km in 2014 to 84,244 km—now covering around 80% of the railway network.
