81-year-old atmospheric scientist Veerabhadran Ramanathan has won the prestigious Crafoord Prize for transforming global understanding of climate change. His research proved that trace gases like CFCs trap far more heat than CO₂, reshaping climate science. His findings helped build the case for the 1987 Montreal Protocol, one of the world’s most successful environmental treaties. Ramanathan’s work continues to influence climate policy and research worldwide.
Hermann Kulke, a German-born Indologist and historian known for his research on Odisha’s history and culture, passed away at the age of 87.
