The Indian Navy will commission its third Survey Vessel (Large) class ship, ‘Ikshak’ at the Kochi Naval Base. Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, with over 80% indigenous content, the ship symbolizes the success of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Named from the Sanskrit word meaning “guide,” Ikshak is equipped with modern hydrographic tools like AUVs, ROVs, and multi-beam echo sounders. It will conduct coastal and deep-sea surveys, enhancing maritime navigation and safety. The ship will operate under Southern Naval Command to strengthen India’s maritime capabilities.
