Every year on December 4th, India celebrates Navy Day to recognise the role and accomplishments of the Indian Navy.
The day was chosen to commemorate the launch of Operation Trident against Pakistan during the Indo-Pakistan War in 1971.
The theme of the year 2021 is ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ as a part of commemorating the 50th anniversary of the victory in the 1971 war.
The Indian Navy is the naval branch of India's Armed Forces, with the President of India serving as Commander-in-Chief.
In 1612, the East India Company founded the Indian Navy. It was later renamed the Royal India Navy, and it was reconstituted as the Indian Navy in 1950 after the country's independence.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the Maratha Emperor, is regarded as the "Father of the Indian Navy."
