India, UAE sign civil nuclear energy agreement

  • In a first, India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for civil nuclear cooperation. 
  • The MoU was signed by Bhuwan Chandra Pathak, Chairman and Managing Director, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), and Mohammed Al Hammadi, Managing Director and CEO, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), UAE.
  • The MoU was signed during the India visit of Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
  • The MoU provides a common framework for possible cooperation between NPCIL and ENEC in relevant areas including developing supply chains, sharing experience and services for operation and maintenance of nuclear power plants, providing nuclear consultancy services, human resource development and training, research and development etc.
