India's total forest and tree cover increased to 25.17% in 2023, with forest cover at 21.76% (7,15,342.61 sq km) and tree cover contributing 3.41%.
States like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand recorded an increase in forest and tree cover, while Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Nagaland, Bihar, and Tripura saw a decline.
