  • Tilapia parvovirus (TiPV) is a small, nonenveloped single standard DNA virus.
  • This virus was first discovered in China in the year 2019.
  • In the year 2021, this virus was found in Thailand.
  • India is the third country to get this virus.
  • This virus lives in the gills, heart, brain, liver, pancreas, spleen, intestines, kidneys, eyes and muscles of tilapia.
  • Recently, for the first time in India, this virus has been found in ponds in Walajah in Ranipet district of Tamil Nadu.
  • It affects the freshwater fish tilapia and causes their death.
