  • Tamil Nadu's coastal temple has become India's first green energy archaeological site.
  • This coastal temple is situated in Mamallapuram/Mahabalipuram.
  • It has the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • This achievement has been achieved due to the Green Heritage Project.
  • Under this project, the energy required to illuminate the temple is generated through solar power plants.
  • The solar plants will not only illuminate the shore temple but also provide electricity to the newly installed reverse osmosis plant.
  • To harness the abundant solar energy present in the vicinity of this temple, three solar plants with a capacity of 10 KW each have been strategically installed.
  • The Shore/Coastal Temple is a historic temple complex located at Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) in Tamil Nadu, dedicated to Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
