India has become the third-largest domestic airline market globally, with domestic capacity doubling from 7.9 million in April 2014 to 15.5 million in April 2024, surpassing Brazil and Indonesia.
India's domestic airline market has the highest growth rate among the top five markets at 6.9% annually, with low-cost carriers accounting for 78.4% of domestic capacity, the highest percentage among the top five markets.
IndiGo's market share has surged from 32% to 62% over the past decade, driving domestic capacity growth at 13.9% annually. Despite their international expansion focus, IndiGo and Air India's narrow-bodied aircraft orders will enhance domestic capacity further.
