The World Bank has ranked India as the 4th most income-equal society globally, with a Gini index of 25.5. The country also saw a sharp drop in extreme poverty, now down to 2.3% in 2022–23. Between 2011 and 2023, around 171 million Indians exited extreme poverty, showcasing significant strides in inclusive growth.
