  • India observed the 95th martyrdom day of Chandra Shekhar Azad on 27 February 2025, one of the most fearless revolutionaries of the freedom struggle. Political leaders across parties paid homage to his courage and sacrifice. True to his vow never to be captured alive by the British, Azad died in a gun battle at Alfred Park, Allahabad, on 27 February 1931 at the age of 24.
  • Born Chandrashekhar Tiwari on 23 July 1906 in Bhabra (Madhya Pradesh), he earned the name “Azad” at age 15 after boldly declaring his identity in court. Influenced by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, he joined the Non-Cooperation Movement but later turned to revolutionary nationalism, joining the Hindustan Republican Association and later the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA).
  • Azad played key roles in the Kakori Conspiracy and the assassination of British officer JP Saunders. His fearless leadership and dedication continue to inspire generations and remain a symbol of uncompromising patriotism in India’s struggle for independence.
