  • India is expected to move into the upper-middle-income category by 2030, joining countries such as China and Indonesia, according to a State Bank of India report.
  • The report projects India’s per capita income to reach $4,000 by the end of the decade.
  • India’s economic transition has been gradual, taking 60 years to move from a low-income to a lower-middle-income nation in 2007. During this period, per capita income rose from $90 in 1962 to $910 in 2007, growing at a compound annual rate of 5.3%.
