  • The Indian Air Force has welcomed its most recent Heron Mark 2 drones into service, featuring the capability for strikes and comprehensive border surveillance along the frontiers with China and Pakistan in a single mission. 
  • These four newly acquired Heron Mark 2 drones, which possess the capacity to be armed with long-range missiles and various weaponry, have been stationed at a forward air base in the northern region.
  • An upgraded iteration of the Heron Mark-1, the Heron Mark-2, has been introduced following the Heron Mark-1's active service with the IAF since 2009. 
  • This medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) drone, the Heron Mark-2, boasts a remarkable range of 3,000 kilometers and the ability to operate for up to 24 hours. 
  • Its arsenal of sensors encompasses a synthetic aperture radar (SAR), an electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) camera, and a laser designator.
  • The IAF now has a fleet of MALE drones, including the Heron Mark-1, the Predator XP, and the MQ-9 Reaper.
