  • India has increased the number of Ramsar sites from 75 to 80 by adding five more wetlands to the list.
  • Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced the achievement ahead of World Wetlands Day.
  • The States of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been congratulated for adding wetlands to the list of Ramsar sites.
  • The newly added Ramsar sites include Karaivetti Bird Sanctuary and Longwood Shola Reserve Forest in Tamil Nadu, and Magadi Kere Conservation Reserve, Anksamudra Bird Conservation Reserve and Aghanashini estuary in Karnataka.
