India was elected to the World Heritage Committee of the UN's cultural organisation for a four-year term.
The Committee is in charge of implementing the World Heritage Convention, defining the use of the World Heritage Fund, and allocating financial assistance in response to requests from States Parties.
A week earlier, India was re-elected to UNESCO's Executive Board.
The General Conference elects the UNESCO Executive Board, which is one of the UN agency's three constitutional entities (the others being the General Conference and the Secretariat).
