  • India was elected to the World Heritage Committee of the UN's cultural organisation for a four-year term.
  • The Committee is in charge of implementing the World Heritage Convention, defining the use of the World Heritage Fund, and allocating financial assistance in response to requests from States Parties.
  • A week earlier, India was re-elected to UNESCO's Executive Board.
  • The General Conference elects the UNESCO Executive Board, which is one of the UN agency's three constitutional entities (the others being the General Conference and the Secretariat).
