India has become the first country in the world to commercially produce bio-bitumen, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced.
Bio-bitumen is a binding material derived from renewable sources such as vegetable oils and crop stubble, and is used primarily in road construction. According to the minister, the innovation aligns with the broader vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, promoting sustainability and reduced dependence on fossil fuels.
