India has announced two cross-border rail projects with Bhutan, totaling over ₹4,033 crore, connecting Gelephu and Samtse with Kokrajhar (Assam) and Banarhat (West Bengal). The Kokrajhar–Gelephu line (69 km) and Banarhat–Samtse line (20 km) will include stations, bridges, and goods yards, enhancing trade and connectivity. Funded by India with Bhutan’s contribution under its 13th Five-Year Plan, these projects strengthen economic ties and reflect the strategic partnership between the two nations. Completion is expected in the next 3–4 years.
