  • India and Sri Lanka signed a number of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in New Delhi on 16 December 2024, which aims to expand cooperation in several areas. 
  • The agreements were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
  • India has so far extended financial assistance and grants worth $5 billion to Sri Lanka, which includes supporting projects such as railway signalling systems and port rehabilitation.
  • India will offer scholarships to 200 students from Jaffna and Eastern Province from next year and train 1500 Sri Lankan civil servants over the next five years.
