India and Sri Lanka signed a number of Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in New Delhi on 16 December 2024, which aims to expand cooperation in several areas.
The agreements were signed in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
India has so far extended financial assistance and grants worth $5 billion to Sri Lanka, which includes supporting projects such as railway signalling systems and port rehabilitation.
India will offer scholarships to 200 students from Jaffna and Eastern Province from next year and train 1500 Sri Lankan civil servants over the next five years.
