  • India observes Maitri Diwas with Bangladesh on December 6, as New Delhi recognised Dhaka on this day in 1971.
  • It was decided to celebrate Maitri Diwas on December 6 during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh in March of this year.
  • Apart from Dhaka and Delhi, the Maitri Diwas is observed in 18 countries around the world. Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, UK, Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, UAE, and the United States are among them.
