  • India ranks fifth globally in generative AI (GenAI) patents, with 1,350 patents filed from 2014 to 2023, trailing behind China, the US, Republic of Korea, and Japan.
  • Despite holding only 3% of the total GenAI patents worldwide, India has achieved the highest annual growth rate in GenAI patent publications, averaging 56% growth.
  • India has surpassed the UK and Germany in GenAI patents and notable Indian patents include innovations by RN Chidakashi Technologies (Miko Robotics) and Tata Consultancy Services, although no Indian entities are in the top 20 GenAI patent owners.
