IIT Guwahati Develops Framework to Predict Glacial Lake Formation in Eastern Himalayas

Researchers at IIT Guwahati have developed an advanced predictive framework to identify potential glacial lake formation zones. The study has mapped 492 locations across the Eastern Himalayan region where new glacial lakes are likely to emerge. This research aims to improve early warning systems and reduce risks related to glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs).
