The Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources (ICAR-NBAGR) has recognized Gaddi, an indigenous dog breed of the Himalayas.
The dog population is now less than 1000 and the breed is on the verge of extinction as it has not been recognized by any major kennel club so far.
