  • The central government's policy think-tank Niti Aayog has awarded the first rank to Uttarakhand's Haridwar in the basic infrastructure category among 117 aspirational districts in India.
  • Along with the title of being India’s Best Aspirational District, the district will also receive an additional allocation of Rs 3 Crores.
  • Haridwar District has been allocated to Union Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal who has taken active interest in the development of the district.
  • The Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) was launched in 2018, under which 117 districts were identified from across India to focus on their development.
