In a historic move for India’s civil aviation sector, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to manufacture the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SJ-100) passenger aircraft in India. Signed in Moscow, this collaboration marks India’s first major passenger aircraft manufacturing effort since 1988. Under the deal, HAL will hold exclusive rights to produce SJ-100 jets for domestic and regional markets. The project aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision and the UDAN scheme, aiming to enhance regional air connectivity. It is expected to create jobs, boost the aerospace supply chain, and strengthen India’s position as a regional aviation hub.
