  • According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), Gurugram recorded the highest average PM2.5 level of 116 µg/m³ in March 2026, far exceeding safe limits.
  • Haryana dominated the top 10 most polluted cities with four entries: Gurugram, Bahadurgarh, Faridabad, and Manesar.
  • Other cities in the list included Ghaziabad and Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Bhiwadi (Rajasthan), Singrauli and Mandideep (Madhya Pradesh), and Nandesari (Gujarat).
  • Ghaziabad was ranked the most polluted city for the entire financial year 2025-26.
  • Many cities failed to meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), with Haryana having the highest number of non-compliant cities.
  • The National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) showed mixed results after seven years; experts called for stronger, science-based and regional actions to control pollution.
