Gurugram Emerges as India's Most Polluted City in March 2026

According to the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), Gurugram recorded the highest average PM2.5 level of 116 µg/m³ in March 2026, far exceeding safe limits.
Haryana dominated the top 10 most polluted cities with four entries: Gurugram, Bahadurgarh, Faridabad, and Manesar.
Other cities in the list included Ghaziabad and Noida (Uttar Pradesh), Bhiwadi (Rajasthan), Singrauli and Mandideep (Madhya Pradesh), and Nandesari (Gujarat).
Ghaziabad was ranked the most polluted city for the entire financial year 2025-26.
Many cities failed to meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), with Haryana having the highest number of non-compliant cities.
The National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) showed mixed results after seven years; experts called for stronger, science-based and regional actions to control pollution.
