The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has announced that the green sea turtle (Chelonia mydas) has improved its Red List status from Endangered to Least Concern, thanks to sustained global conservation efforts. Green turtles play a crucial role as keystone species in tropical marine ecosystems, including coral reefs and seagrass meadows, and hold cultural, culinary, recreational, and spiritual significance worldwide. Despite threats to some subpopulations, the species’ population has increased by nearly 28% since the 1970s.
