Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that the state’s proposed third district will be called ‘Kushavati’, after an ancient river flowing through the region. Describing it as an aspirational district, he said Goa currently has only two districts—North Goa and South Goa. The new district will include the talukas of Dharbandora, Quepem, Sanguem, and Canacona, presently part of South Goa. Until necessary infrastructure is developed, administrative work will continue to be handled from South Goa.
