  • The traditional martial art of Punjab, Gatka has officially included in the 37th National Games 2023, scheduled to be held in Goa in October.
  • Gatka is a form of martial art associated primarily with the Sikhs of the Punjab and other related ethnic groups, such as Hindkowans.
  • Gatka as a modern sporting discipline is a standardised style of stick fighting between two or more opponents.
  • It has often been called ‘Adi-Shakti Yoga’, or Yoga for empowering the self.
  • During this national event, the IOA, in collaboration with the Government of Goa, would organise competitions for a total of 43 disciplines, including demonstration sport gatka, pencak silat, sqay and others.
