The Ganga dolphin is found in the Ganga river in Uttar Pradesh.
Recently the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has declared the Ganga Dolphin as the state aquatic animal.
The estimated population of Ganga dolphin in Uttar Pradesh is estimated at around 2000.
Dolphins are found in rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Chambal, Ghaghra, Rapti and Gerua.
'Yeh Meri Ganga Meri Dolphin' campaign is being run for the conservation of dolphins in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
The dolphin was recognized as the national aquatic animal by the Government of India in 2009.
The Ganges dolphin is included in the First Schedule of the Indian Wildlife (Protection), Act 1972.
