  • The Ganga dolphin is found in the Ganga river in Uttar Pradesh.
  • Recently the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has declared the Ganga Dolphin as the state aquatic animal.
  • The estimated population of Ganga dolphin in Uttar Pradesh is estimated at around 2000.
  • Dolphins are found in rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Chambal, Ghaghra, Rapti and Gerua.
  • 'Yeh Meri Ganga Meri Dolphin' campaign is being run for the conservation of dolphins in Hapur district of Uttar Pradesh.
  • The dolphin was recognized as the national aquatic animal by the Government of India in 2009.
  • The Ganges dolphin is included in the First Schedule of the Indian Wildlife (Protection), Act 1972.
