  • France forward Karim Benzema has announced his retirement from international football after the FIFA World Cup 2022 came to an end.
  • Benzema had missed the World Cup through injury and all but confirmed that he has retired from international duty for France through Twitter on Monday, which is incidentally also the day of his 35th birthday.
  • Benzema's honors with the French team includes the 2021 UEFA Nations League success and this second placed finish at the World Cup in Qatar.
  • The Real Madrid striker was France’s top scorer at the 2014 World Cup.
