  • French defender Raphael Varane of Manchester United announced that he has retired from international competitions on behalf of the national team.
  • Varane, 29, has made 93 appearances for Les Bleus since he was selected into the French national team for the first time in 2013.
  • He participated in three editions of FIFA World Cup in 2014, 2018, 2022 and the UEFA European Championships in 2021. 
  • His solid performance in the back line was key to France in winning the World Cup title in 2018 in Russia.
  • Varane, who signed for United from Real Madrid in August 2021, is the latest Les Bleus player to retire after the World Cup.
